Meet Lulu Carney: From rushed rides to show ring glory
Lulu Carney, Class of 2027, chose USPA for its flexibility and academic rigor.
About Lulu Carney
Lulu is a passionate equestrian whose love for horse showing has taken her from Kentucky to Ocala, and everywhere in between. In addition to excellence in the show ring, Lulu is a dedicated student whose thirst for academic success closely rivals her talent for riding.
What was school like before USPA?
Before USPA, Lulu struggled to balance a full-time school schedule with a demanding barn life. Between keeping her own string show-ready, participating in extra work alongside her trainers, and spending time in Florida in the winter, Lulu became concerned she would have to choose between her riding goals and academic achievement.
Why did Lulu join USPA?
Lulu was first attracted to the flexibility and global access that USPA offered, allowing her the opportunity to study from anywhere in the world at a time that suited her. But it was USPAs fully accredited curriculum, excellent teachers, and rigorous classes that sealed the deal. As a student-athlete who also has academic goals, Lulu was finally able to dedicate all her focus to her horses when training or competing, confident in the knowledge that a good education awaited her after training.
What’s next for Lulu?
Thanks to the freedom and world-class education Lulu discovered at USPA, she is looking forward to an exciting future. The additional barn time that USPA allowed meant she could participate in exciting career opportunities alongside her trainer. Lulu is also reaching new levels in her own riding and will be heading off to the New England and USHJA Hunt Seat Finals, as well as the National Horse Show in Kentucky, where she will be competing in the Hamel Medal.
USPA gives me more flexibility in my schedule while allowing me to maintain academic rigor. It alleviates stress from missing so many days of school while horse showing. USPA’s flexibility has made it so I can have many more learning opportunities with my horse.” - Lulu Carney
We are grateful for USPA offering opportunity and support for Lulu pursuing her equestrian goals and dreams. The school offers highly rigorous classes with excellent teachers and coaches. It is wonderful that Lulu doesn’t have to choose between academic excellence and equestrian goals.” – Lulu’s mother
