Computer requirements for online classes

Recommended computer configurations

Our online classes are accessible from almost any computer or laptop, allowing students to join from wherever they are. However, having the right technology ensures a smooth and effective learning experience at USPA.

To help your child thrive during classes, we recommend the following computer requirements and software.

Recommended configurations

We recommend systems that meet or exceed the following specification.

Processor (CPU)

Intel Core i5, AMD Ryzen 5 or more powerful processor

Operating system

Up-to-date version of Windows 10 or Windows 11

Memory

8GB RAM or more

Monitor/Display

17″ laptop display or 21″ external monitor

Hardware

Wired USB headset and webcam

Network Connection

Wired internet connection, minimum of 20mb persecond download and 10mb per second upload

Minimum computer requirements

The following lists the minimum computer, laptop, or device requirements needed for network connectivity and other basic functions.

Processor (CPU)

Intel Core i5, AMD Ryzen 5 or equivalent processor

Up-to-date version of Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS

At least 4GB RAM

15″ laptop display or 19″ external monitor

Additional notes

Unsupported devices

Currently, the USPA Student Hub is not compatible with mobile devices or tablets. Development is ongoing and we aim to provide support in the future.

Apple Mac Computers

We suggest using a Windows PC or laptop for best compatibility, as USPA course materials are designed on Windows computers. Apple Mac computers can be used, but they may require file conversions due to different file types used.

We also recommend using the Google Chrome browser on a Apple Mac computer.

Printer and Scanner

We recommend students have access to a printer and scanner, as some subjects require class exercises and exams to be printed and scanned. Alternatively, a smartphone can be used to photograph completed work and scan it using the Microsoft Lens app.

Sound

All setups require speakers and a microphone. We suggest using a USB headset which combines both headphones and a microphone.

Camera

Many lessons allow students to participate using their webcams. We recommend using either an integrated webcam or an external USB webcam, depending on the device.

Software Requirements

Students will have access to the online versions of Microsoft Office apps while attending our school. These apps can handle most schoolwork, but have some limitations compared to the installed versions. For full functionality, it is recommended to get a Microsoft 365 subscription for the installed apps.

PDF viewer

We recommend using Adobe Reader, but an internet browser can also open these files if necessary.

Classroom software

Adobe Connect is used for online classrooms and works best with the Adobe Connect application. You can download the latest version from Adobe Connect Downloads and Updates.
